The DB2 Universal Database XML Extender

Abstract. The DB2 Universal Database XML Extender embeds XML functions into the DB2 DBMS to provide support for storing XML documents in DB2 tables, either as complete documents or as decomposed document elements and attributes, and creating XML documents from data stored in the database. The mapping between XML and relational tables is specified using Document Access Definitions, these contain information about the DB2 tables and columns used for storing complete documents or decomposed elements and attributes. XML documents can be created from any DB2 data, not just data originally derived from XML documents.
