Abstract: Adaptive hypermedia and especially adaptive presentation of information represented using hypermedia are becoming very popular mainly due to the rapid expanse of available information on the web. We focus on several aspects of adaptive hypermedia related to information presentation on the web environment. We analyse methods, techniques and tools of adaptive content, adaptive presentation and adaptive navigation support. Adaptation decisions are based on taking into account not only various user characteristics represented by a user model (e.g., user preferences, knowledge level, goals, user background) but also environment characteristics (user locality, equipment used, language, time). An application in the domain of educational adaptive systems is presented. We briefly discuss also modelling issues of adaptive web systems expressed in the UML. Specific problems and tasks narrowed to the hypermedia as such are not discussed, the paper is oriented mainly on the text presentation.
