Preface

This volume contains the papers presented at a student research forum during the SOFSEM 2002 conference. The SOFSEM 2002 Student Research Forum was held on November 27th, 2002, in Milovy, Czech Republic.

SOFSEM (SOFtware SEMinar) is an annual five day international conference devoted to the theory and practice of software systems. Its aim is to foster co-operation among professionals from academia and industry working in various areas of computer science. The SOFSEM program consists of a series of Invited Talks, given by prominent professionals and researchers, and Contributed Talks selected by the Program Committee from submitted papers. This year was the SOFSEM conference accompanied by the Student Research Forum. The main purpose of the SOFSEM Student Research Forum is to publish and discuss students' projects in the field of theory and practice of informatics.

The SOFSEM 2002 Student Research Forum attracted 18 submissions from 6 countries. The submissions were subject to a review process with each paper having been reviewed by 3 referees. After many on-line discussions, 9 papers were accepted for inclusion in this volume, which stands for the SOFSEM 2002 Student Research Forum proceedings.

I would like to thank all PC members for their work during the reviewing process, all authors for their effort in writing contributions, the Organizing Committee, and in particular, Ales Krenek and its chairman Jan Staudek, for their very effective support in technical preparations of this proceedings and in making this event to happen, and Gabriela Polcicova from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava for her excellent job during preparation of these proceedings.

I believe that this event will become regular part of future SOFSEM conferences and the number of attracted young researchers will grow.
