Characterizing Smooth Shapes

Abstract: In much of the biological literature, shape is represented by finite sets of points based on biological landmarks. This is the basis for most of morphometrics (statistics of shape) and comes from the underlying notion of biological homology. However, there are many shapes for which there are no easily definable landmarks, yet it is still meaningful to want to measure how such shapes change across a population. In this talk, I will introduce some recent work I have been doing on matching and characterizing smooth shapes in two dimensions.

Updates of non-monotonic knowledge bases

·       Non-monotonic knowledge base (NMKB), assumptions. What is interesting on the construct of NMKB.

·       Updates of NMKB – an operation of crucial importance: NMKB are non-monotonic because of updates and assumptions (hypotheses). What is hard on NMKB updates.

·       Rationality postulates for updates of NMKBs. Evaluation of some formalizations of NMKB from the rationality postulaets point of view. A dependency semantics for NMKB updates.

Interactive Evolutionary Computation for better Human-Robot Interaction

In this talk I will analyze the usage of artificial intelligent techniques in humanoid robotics. The focus will be on social robotics and how
to improve the interaction between human and robot. We used the Interactive Evolution - this technique optimizes systems based
on subjective human evaluation. It is a technology that embeds human preference, intuition, emotion, psychological aspects, or a more
general term, KANSEI, in the target system. We believe that the IEC will make interactive robots more personal in interacting with
humans. The algorithm is applied to a system of design of robotic dance, in which the Evolutionary Algorithm helps user to create
choreography of the robotic dance. We are using a French robot Nao which has a human-like appearance and various sensors
for interacting with humans. The global idea is that every person can adapt the robot´s behavior in accordance to his own expectations
and preferences.

On meanings and their representations without and within language

Meaning and its representation play a crucial role in contemporary cognitive science. Traditional linguistic theories, often reflected in articial intelligence, typically enclose (amodal) meaning representations in a semantic module, isolated from the rest of cognition. Accumulating empirical evidence in cognitive science research, however, speaks in favor of meaning representations consistent with grounded cognition perspective.
Conceptual system and the linguistic system are viewed as tightly interacting, with a dominant role of the former in representing meanings. The human (semantic) knowledge starts during agent's sensorimotor experience in the world, but later linguistic knowledge starts to boost and affect the process of acquisition. The talk will provide a summary of recent theoretical and empirical evidence that sheds light on the possible role of language in meaning formation, which should inspire computational modeling.

Boolove funkcie sú kódované pomocou acyklických orientovaných grafov, ktorých vrcholy reprezentujú elementárne Boolove funkcie (spojky) negácie, konjunkcie, disjunkcie, ich negácie a exkluzívnu disjunkciu.

Connectionist model of sentence comprehension in the visual world paradigm

Language comprehension often occurs in the visual context. Evidence from numerous studies using the visual world paradigm has revealed both that spoken language can rapidly guide attention in a related visual scene and that scene information can immediately influence comprehension process. Spoken sentence drives the focus of attention on objects and/or events present in the visual scene, described by the sentence. In addition, language also helps predict upcoming information. We model this behaviour using a sigma-pi recurrent network that is trained to predict the situational representation described by the sentence (out of two simultaneously presented events with a few distracting objects at the input). The adaptive feedback attentional mechanism has been added to the model to help focus attention. We present the results of the connectionist model of sentence comprehension, tested on linguistic inputs, with and without the situational context.

Optimálna cesta v územnon grafe (Optimal path in graph based on spatial data)

Prezentácia bude obsahovať stručné vymenovanie možností hľadania optimálnych ciest v grafoch. Budú v skratke spomenuté špecifiká rôznych typov grafov s primárnym zameraním na grafy pochádzajúce z geografických dát. Rozoberané algoritmy budú najmä Dijkstrov algoritmus a AStar algoritmus.

Pomocou teorie grafov porovnavame funkcionalnu konektivitu mozgu u mladych ludi, starsich ludi a starsich ludi s demenciou. Skumame, ci funkcne siete teda siete, ktore sa dynamicky

formuju, ked mozog vykonava nejaku ulohu, vykazuju statisticky signifikantne rozdiely vzhladom k takym parametrom ako: pocet uzlov, pocet hran, bezskalovost a charakteristiky sieti maleho sveta.
